Uncork Spring Wine Festival NJ: A Local Tasting Experience Worth Savoring

Uncork Spring = Uncorked Fun!

Last weekend, we made our way back to one of those events that just feels like a tradition in the making—the Uncork Spring annual wine festival. This was our second time attending, and honestly, it delivered exactly what we were hoping for: a relaxed, high-energy atmosphere filled with good wine, familiar faces, and plenty of discoveries.

There’s something about events like this that hit differently. Maybe it’s the convenience of having multiple wineries under one roof, or maybe it’s the chance to explore a wide range of styles without committing to full bottles right away. Either way, Uncork Spring continues to be one of those events that reminds us why we enjoy exploring New Jersey wine in the first place.

Almost a Dozen Wineries with Endless Varieties

Inside Uncork Spring: A New Jersey Wine Festival You Need to Experience

This year’s event featured close to a dozen wineries, each pouring a lineup of their latest releases. From crisp whites to bold reds and even a few fruit wines mixed in, there was no shortage of variety.

Some of the wineries we were especially excited to revisit included:

Each table brought something a little different to the experience. That’s one of the things I appreciate most about New Jersey wine—no two wineries approach their craft the same way. Even when working with the same grape, you’ll find completely different expressions depending on the winemaker’s style.

Starting Light: Whites That Set the Tone

Like we usually do, we kicked things off with the whites. It’s the easiest way to ease into a tasting and let your palate warm up before diving into the heavier reds.

There were plenty of blends to try, along with multiple takes on familiar varietals like Vidal Blanc, Traminette, and Riesling. Some leaned sweet, others finished dry, and a few landed somewhere right in the middle.

What stood out wasn’t just the differences—it was the consistency in quality and identity. No matter which winery we stopped at, there was a shared thread running through all of them. These wines felt distinctly New Jersey. Locally grown grapes, thoughtfully crafted, and representative of the region.

That’s something you really start to notice the more you attend these events. There’s a sense of place in the glass, even when the styles vary.

Moving to Reds: Bold, Balanced, and Bottle-Worthy

Once we made our way through the whites, it was time to shift gears and head into red wine territory.

There were plenty of blends being poured, along with single varietals that gave you a more focused look at what each grape can do. Cabernet Franc, as usual, was high on my list—and it didn’t disappoint.

But the standout for me? A Chambourcin from DiMatteo Vineyards.

It was one of those pours that immediately makes you pause. Smooth, balanced, and just layered enough to keep you going back for another sip. It didn’t take much convincing—we ended up grabbing a bottle before moving on.

That’s really the beauty of these events. You walk in planning to “just taste,” and next thing you know, you’re leaving with bottles you didn’t expect to find.

What Came Home With Us

No surprise—we didn’t leave empty-handed.

A few bottles that made the cut:

  • Angelico Winery: Miracle, Free Spirit, and Riesling
  • Plagido’s Niagara
  • DiMatteo Vineyards Chambourcin

Each one offered something different, which is exactly what you want when you’re building out your collection. A mix of styles, a few easy sippers, and at least one bottle that you’re already looking forward to opening again.

More Than Wine: The People Make It

As good as the wine was, the best part of the day had nothing to do with what was in the glass.

It was seeing people.

Over time, you start to recognize familiar faces at these events—both from the wineries and from the crowd. There’s a real sense of community that builds when you keep showing up and supporting local.

You get to talk with winemakers, hear the stories behind the bottles, and catch up with others who are just as interested in local wine as you are. It turns into more than just a tasting—it becomes a shared experience. And honestly, that’s what keeps us coming back.

Why Supporting Local Wineries Matters

Events like Uncork Spring are a great reminder of how important it is to support local wineries.

You can hear it in the way the winemakers talk about their craft. There’s a level of passion and pride that’s hard to miss. These aren’t just products on a table—they’re the result of years of work, experimentation, and commitment to growing something right here in New Jersey.

That kind of energy is contagious.

It makes you want to visit the tasting rooms, walk the vineyards, and spend more time getting to know what each winery is all about. It turns a casual interest into something a little deeper.

Final Thoughts: Is Uncork Spring Worth It?

If you’ve never been to Uncork Spring at the Carteret Performing Arts and Events Center, it’s absolutely worth checking out.

It’s one of the easiest ways to get introduced to New Jersey wine without having to map out a full weekend of winery visits. Everything is right there in one place, and you get a solid mix of styles, producers, and personalities.

Whether you’re just getting into wine or you’ve been exploring for a while, there’s something here for you.

And if I had to guess? You’re probably not leaving empty-handed.

Have you ever been to a wine festival or winery expo like this?

Drop a comment and share your experience—we’re always looking for new events to check out and new wines to add to the list.

Your Next Local Wine Adventure Starts Here

If there’s one takeaway from Uncork Spring, it’s this—great wine doesn’t have to come from across the country or around the world. Sometimes it’s right in your backyard, waiting to be discovered.

So the next time you’re looking for something to do, skip the usual plans and find a local wine event instead.

You might just find your next favorite bottle a lot closer than you think.
