Our tasting was led by Clayton, a retired police officer turned tasting guide, who did an excellent job breaking down the basics of sipping, swirling, and tasting wine in stages. The experience was approachable, informative, and perfect for both beginners and experienced wine drinkers.

2. Standout Wines That Showcase New Jersey Terroir
Cape May Winery produces a diverse lineup of wines, and several truly stood out during our visit.
The CM3 Red Blend (2021) was my personal favorite. Made from Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Merlot, it was smooth, balanced, and incredibly enjoyable from the first sip to the last.
My fiancé gravitated toward the 2024 Stone Series White Field Blend, a refreshing combination of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Grigio. Bright and easy-drinking, it’s the kind of wine that pairs perfectly with a warm Cape May afternoon.
With 12 grape varietals grown across 26 acres of sandy loam soil, Cape May Winery does an excellent job highlighting what New Jersey vineyards can produce.
3. Food, Atmosphere, and a Reason to Stay Longer
Another reason Cape May Winery is a must-visit is that it offers more than just wine. The winery grounds are inviting, relaxed, and perfect for spending an afternoon, which is exactly why we came back the next day.
The tapas bar adds an extra layer to the experience. We enjoyed a comforting white bean and ham soup, followed by two sliders—one crab and one lobster. The food was flavorful, well-prepared, and paired beautifully with their wines.
Add in the scenic grounds and welcoming atmosphere, and it’s easy to see why many visitors choose to linger longer—or return for a second visit.
